The Regional Development Fund of Crete organized on 20-21 June 2022 the 2nd meeting of the C-IZEBs project “Cooperative Intelligent education & electromobility-Zero Energy Buildings” which is part of the Greece – Cyprus Territorial Cooperation Programme.
The project involves 4 partners, the Regional Development Fund of Crete, the Municipality of Heraklion, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth of Cyprus, the University of Cyprus, whose executives and partners participated in the meeting.
The objectives of the project are energy savings and electromobility in public and municipal buildings that are compatible with the objectives of the European Energy Union, and the Cohesion and Recovery Policy, as well as with the energy and climate objectives and commitments of the Member States for 2020 and 2030 and in particular with the commitments on the priority of rational use and saving of energy.
Energy saving and electromobility actions in public buildings are also included in the National Energy and Climate Plan and the new Cretan Regional Development Plan 2021-2027.
More specifically, the project concerns the energy renovation of the High School of Agios Myronas and the supply of an electric bus by the Municipality of Heraklion as well as the energy renovation of the High School of Archbishop Makarios in Cyprus and the supply of a charging station and electric bicycles by the Ministry of Education of Cyprus.
The Regional Development Fund of Crete participates in the elaboration of the relevant studies, in the preparation and implementation of the Publicity Plan and the Capitalization Plan of the project and in the implementation of a systematic information of the Municipalities of Crete on energy saving and electromobility as the implementation of the national ELEKTRA programme for Public Buildings has started and the preparation of the Municipal Emission Reduction Plans (MEPs) foreseen by the new Greek Climate Law is about to begin.

Also, the Regional Development Fund of Crete – Energy Centre of Crete will design and implement in cooperation with the Municipality of Heraklion and the teachers of Agios Myronas High School special “Living Workshops” for students, teachers, parents and public officials on energy saving in buildings and electromobility. The actions of the project will be linked to other similar projects as well as to the initiatives of the Covenant of Mayors and the Covenant of Islands.
The 2nd project meeting was attended by Dr N. Zographakis, Mr. Γ. Pantelakis along with other members of the PTA Crete.
